Legal Entity Notice

Wolf Creek Cherokee Tribe of Virginia Cultural Center, Inc. is the legal entity registered with the Virginia State Corporation Commission.

The organization is currently in the process of applying for federal tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The Wolf Creek Cherokee Museum & Tribal Center operates as the public-facing name and programmatic arm of the organization. For clarity and consistency across public materials, the organization may also be referenced as the Wolf Creek Cherokee Tribe of Virginia (“the Tribe”).

All programs, services, and organizational activities are conducted under the legal entity name:
Wolf Creek Cherokee Tribe of Virginia Cultural Center, Inc.

At this time, contributions to the organization are not tax-deductible pending IRS determination.

Articles of Incorporation

The organization is incorporated as a native American nonprofit corporation in the Commonwealth of Virginia and is dedicated to cultural preservation, museum stewardship, and community education.

Certified Articles of Incorporation are maintained on file with the Virginia State Corporation Commission.

The Administration of the Wolf Creek Cherokee Tribe of Virginia supports the day-to-day operations that allow the Tribe’s programs, services, and cultural preservation work to function with consistency, accountability, and care. Administrative operations are structured to ensure responsible management, transparency, and alignment with the Tribe’s mission and long-term sustainability goals.

While the Tribal Council provides governance, leadership, and strategic direction, administrative functions focus on operational coordination, compliance readiness, recordkeeping, and organizational support. Together, these roles ensure that cultural, educational, and preservation initiatives are carried out responsibly and in service to the community.

Administrative operations support a wide range of organizational functions, including but not limited to:

  • Organizational management and internal coordination

  • Financial administration and contribution oversight

  • Program administration and service scheduling

  • Museum operations support

  • Cultural preservation and archival stewardship

  • Compliance documentation and record maintenance

  • Public engagement and external communications

As part of ongoing capacity-building efforts, the Tribe is strengthening administrative systems to support eligibility for public, private, and corporate funding opportunities. These efforts include formalizing documentation, improving operational workflows, and ensuring that governance and administrative practices align with recognized nonprofit and funding compliance standards.

The Administration page serves as a central location for organizational and compliance information and will continue to be updated as documentation is finalized and published. This approach reflects the Tribe’s commitment to transparency, responsible stewardship, and long-term organizational stability.

Governance & Organizational Oversight

The Tribe operates under established governance and administrative structures designed to support accountability, continuity, and responsible decision-making. Governance responsibilities are carried out by the Tribal Council, while administrative functions ensure that policies, procedures, and operational practices support the Tribe’s mission and long-term objectives.
