Honoring Our Veterans

The Tribe holds deep respect for the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces. Service is understood as an act of responsibility, courage, and sacrifice — values that align with the Cherokee tradition of protecting community, land, and future generations. Honoring Veterans is not a single moment of recognition, but an ongoing commitment to gratitude and remembrance.

Many Tribal members have served across branches of the United States military, carrying forward a long legacy of Native service. Military commitment among Native peoples has historically reflected loyalty to community, protection of homelands, and the willingness to stand in defense of others. For the Tribe, acknowledging these Veterans affirms both identity and responsibility — honoring those who stepped forward and carried the weight of service.

The Tribe’s work also extends beyond its own members. Through presentations, cultural programs, and community engagement at Veterans Hospitals, military functions, and public events across Virginia, the Wolf Creek Cherokee Tribe recognizes the shared sacrifice of all who have served. These offerings are grounded in respect, bringing cultural presence, encouragement, and acknowledgment to Veterans throughout the Commonwealth.

The Tribe stands in gratitude to Tribal Veterans, to Veterans across Virginia, and to the Veterans of the United States as a whole — honoring their courage, their service, and the enduring responsibility they carried on behalf of others.

The Wolf Creek Cherokee Tribe honors all who have served — our own Tribal members, the Veterans across the Commonwealth, and the Veterans of the United States whose service and sacrifice have safeguarded community, land, and liberty. It is with respect and gratitude that we recognize their courage, their commitment, and the enduring impact of their service on generations past, present, and future.
